Developing A Self Care Regimen
Today was simply exhausting. I woke up feeling argumentative and on the edge which is not the norm for me. I felt bad for Jae because he walked right into my wrath unknowingly. I have been on the edge to put it simply, and I am not entirely sure how I have gotten to this point. To be honest I have been feeling this way for a few weeks now. My daily schedule is pretty regular and I don't hate working nor do I hate being home. I have just been feeling blah for lack of a better word, and I have really been digging deep to figure out why.
Aside from the incessant disgust I have in my gut everyday surrounding the negative media, there really isn't anything going on in my life that would be taking an emotional toll on me. I started to think it was my diet and/or sleeping habits which could totally be a possibility as well. I eat so horrible and at best I get about 5-6 hours of sleep every night. That is when it hit me; I am slowly burning out because I am not taking care of all of these things at once. With this I took to Pinterest and found some really helpful ideas for developing a self care plan. Your plan is unique to you but fill it with things that encourage a healthier and productive lifestyle for you. What I love is that your list can involve things that you can do in the moment, but it also can feature goals that you have for yourself. This will make more sense a little later, but before I delve into my interpretation I wanted to give you an actual definition of self care.
What is self care?!
Self-care is a very active and powerful choice to engage in the activities that are required to gain or maintain an optimal level of overall health. And in this case, overall health includes not just the physical, but the psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual components of an individual’s well-being.
To me the most important aspect of my self care is within the spiritual sense. I have such bad anxiety and constantly find myself in a state of panic whenever something happens in life that I do not expect. I am pretty good at keeping myself in good spirits and in a good place to spread positive energy, however I must get better at the little things and focus more on me. I want to get my diet down to a science based on what feels best for my body. I want to spend more time on my blog and developing my business ideas because that is something that means a lot to me. I have a passion for fashion and design and I am hoping to come out with some amazing stuff this year. I can honestly list so many things that would feed me spiritually but I don't want to bore you guys, I just wanted to get the juices flowing.
Think about what fuels you and develop a plan. Then just make sure you are making healthier food decisions and getting enough sleep. To me this is self care.
Here is what I wrote up for myself just so you have an idea on how to start :)
Ways To Practice Self Care ✔️
Meet physical needs FIRST! Make sure you are eating and sleeping regularly.
Find ways to make exercising fun 🏃🏾♀️
Maybe look into taking boxing classes again, or meditating in a group setting...
Plan trips to places you have never been & count down the days ✨
Go E Book hunting & read more!
Work on the blog and your business ideas!
De-clutter the wardrobe.
Create a new playlist 🎶
Research black history (has become very calming lately)
Go for a walk or take pictures
I hope this got you thinking... make sure to put YOU first ❤
Try to put together a self care list that you can write somewhere and remember to follow. Even if you choose just one thing on your list daily, you will be feeding your soul that much more.
