My First Walk // Nathalia JMag
Last Friday I took part in my very first runway show. It was a benefit fashion show put together by Wayfair in honor of the American Heart Association. It was honestly the most amazing experience! For starters I have always wanted to model but have always found myself on the other side of the camera. I am passionate about my photos, but I was grateful to experience the other side of the spectrum. There is nothing like strutting past a crowd with flashes hitting you from every angle. There is also nothing like wearing a brand created by someone you know and love; strutting both to promote yourself and the brand. Nat has been showcasing her "In Bloom" line at various shows and I am obsessing over it. Her shoes are vibrant and happy, filled with a muted pink and pops of color in detail. She is very specific about her look and I was so excited to see myself transformed.
When I arrived I met a couple of awesome girls whom I spent most of the day with preparing for the show. They were so chill and let me in a bit on the life of a model. They took me on as their own and I am so grateful to have met them. Even though I was confident I would do well I was filled with nerves and just talking to them made me feel a lot better. They also got my thoughts going about being signed to an agency and finding actual work as a model. I have a lot of work to do in regards to my portfolio but they reassured me by saying they assumed I was signed already. We talked for what seemed like hours before we were pulled back to start our hair and makeup.
Being backstage before the start of a show is complete chaos but in the happiest sense. You will find everyone frantically adding finishing touches to their look, naked, practicing their walks. It was liberating to say the least and soaked it all in, making sure to use this experience as a steppingstone.
I have always wanted to model but Friday confirmed to me that I could actually do it. Friday let me know that I had the confidence to walk, untaught. I could take something on a limb and strut with it. I could not have found this without Nat, she has been so supportive of my dream and I love her for that. Just being among her and her amazing team has lifted me up in the best way. A friend told me last night that I deserve to chase my dream, so I am going to do just that. I am so done letting everything else come before what I truly want. Modeling is what I want.
