Just One Of The Many Reasons Why I Love My City
This past week I've had the pleasure of working with kids on their skills in basketball. I don't think I have ever expressed just how important my coaching life means to me. Basketball has played such a huge role in who I've become. So I almost feel as if I am doing an injustice to the kids growing up in the city if I don't return the service. The opportunities I've been given, along with the people I've met are priceless and have all been available to me because of this one sport. I guess you can say I love it.
I have literally been playing since I was five years old. So I'm grateful when I find time in my life now at 21 to play the sport and not only play it but teach it. There is no greater feeling than to make a player better. There is also nothing like having a player tell you just how much a simple compliment made them feel. As a coach I live for these moments, and I'm so happy that I was given the chance to work with some amazing kids this summer :)
I wanted to take a minute to commend Mitch Hercule, who has made it his sole mission to provide camps, clinics, in league play for the cities girl basketball players. When I grew up in the city there were very little things offered for people my age. I either had to play with the boys, or with girls who are way older than me. It makes me so happy to see the girls basketball population grow, and sustain itself. He has even created a league that I can play in now as well. I am grateful for his work, and I strongly encourage anyone in the city who is looking for a trainer or someone to help them get better to contact Mitch. I have linked his site below:
